"Growing up in New York, in a family of 9 children, I thought my world was perfect. In a household full of noise, laundry, dishes, homework and an endless stream of people, I felt secure.

Now, as an adult, I marvel at this magic of childhood, and I am not certain whether my memories are based on reality or the optimism of the heart. My feelings have only deepened over the years despite family difficulties and tragedy. I realize that perhaps it is only my definition of perfection which has changed.

I know that we cannot foresee or choose our future, but we can search through our past and collect our treasures. These are mine."
