"If you have followed my work over the years you know that I often transform my visual vocabulary tools to satisfy an appetite for describing my world in new ways. I love the ritual and excitement of change even when kept within the confines of who I’ve been, who I am, and who I will be. When I step outside those boundaries my work takes dramatic leaps.
My imagery is comprised of “phrases” from my voyage nurtured by memory and experience. The results arise from my reactions rather than from observations, thus making my work expressionist by definition. Often suggestive of nature, it is always liberated and condensed to the essentials.
Combining bold and luxuriant color with the shapes of nature has always been a part of my art process. In this latest shift of my work I’ve returned to some of my roots and layered the broadening experiences of my continuing voyages on top.
As you will see in this new body of work, Expressions from the Landscape is a continuation of that voyage. Inspired by my travels, my memories, and my sense of the world around me, this work has a more representational feel than many of my previous images - but with abstract qualities that are emboldened by working with painting knives and a heavy impasto application of the paint.
The voyage continues to be very rewarding."
