| Peter Karner is a studio potter based in Durango, Colorado who has been working with clay since 1986. He recently changed his technique from wood firing to high firing in the reduction atmosphere of a gas kiln. This technique enables him to recreate some of the characteristic surfaces and flashing that are created in the wood kiln. To Karner, shape is the foundation of his work. He experiments with glazes to beautify, not overwhelm, his vessels.
