Jenny Mendes uses the slow and time-honored hand building techniques of pinching and coiling clay to build each of her intimate, hand-sized narrative pots.
Surface decoration occurs by repeatedly layering colored clay slips that serve as canvas for her finely painted human and animal images - unique yet redolent imagery that sustains charismatic stories of much larger scale. Her pieces collectively form a re-imagined response to historical folk ceramics from a variety of cultures.
