| After graduating from art school in London, Thea Tenenbaum lived in Italy for several years. She met Italian artist Raffaele Malferrari, who loved the challenge and excitement of painting with soft colors on terra cotta. Thea and Raffael have been collaborating for over 20 years. They currently live in Boyulder, Colorado and spend their summers in Bologna, Italy. Their work expresses their joy in the intimacy and wit of everyday objects, as well as their love for both Italy and the American West. The terra cotta clay is hand-formed on a potters wheel, covered in a white clay slip and then fired in an electric kiln. The pieces are then painted with colored pigments from Italy, dipped in a transparent, leadless glaze, and fired again. Each piece is individually handcrafted and unique.
