12"x12"x7/8" encaustic

Encaustic painting made with beeswax, damar resin (a natural tree sap that acts as a hardening agent), colored wax, pastels, oil sticks and charcoal marks. Hang and store at normal room temperatures. Avoid freezing and extremely hot temperatures; wax melts at 150°F / 65°C. Keep out of strong direct sunlight.

"An encaustic painting is created by mixing beeswax and damar resin (a natural tree sap that acts as a hardening agent) and fusing them with heat. This process allows me to build up colored wax layers that are both opaque and transparent." –Maggie Sanftleben
