by Michael E. Davis
11"x12" oil on panel (4"x5" image)
Davis’s use of clear, direct and clean color, coupled with his use of vigorous brush strokes are reminiscent of Cezanne’s works although the artist says he was most influenced by Hopper, Monet and Sargeant. His clean areas of color play off one another giving his paintings an unusual vibrancy. The clarity of light available at the tip of Cape Cod, a favorite locale of Davis’s, lends itself to his dynamic style resulting in fresh and exciting works.
