“A paradox? An absurdity? To 'capture' a sense of transience in a painting? Capturing anything has never been my intent in creating art — rather I react to the moment, to the color, the atmosphere, to the mood or the music. I react to change itself, its demands and its comforts. My method is to erase the self as I work, through involvement in the act of spreading color and layering, exploring the conversations between colors and the shapes they find. The gestures arrive with mark-making and rubbing out and scratching through. Transience? The paintings are a record of a long process of change. They themselves change with each time we stop to really look at them. Reminding us of our transience.”
